Biography
David J. Robinson is an Algonquin sculptor and educator from Timiskaming First Nation. He is also known as Nimki, his Algonquin name, meaning ‘Thunder’.
Robinson is a UBC Native Indian Teacher Education Program (NITEP) graduate, certified teacher, PhD MD from the UBC Faculty of Medicine in Experimental Medicine and former Indigenous Enhancement teacher for the Vancouver School Board. Dr. Robinson also worked for the Assembly of First Nations as a Senior Policy Analyst.
Some of Dr. Robinsons’ public art installations in Vancouver include Dancing Flames UBC Ponderosa building, Mashkiki Ike at UBC First Nations House of Learning, Medicine Bowls at Vancouver School Board Office, Many Beings at John Oliver Secondary, several sculptures at Lord Byng Secondary, Ogo Pogo at wək̓ʷan̓əs tə syaqʷəm Elementary school, and Wellness Bench the Lelum Health Center.
