Spirit Bear

Sôginijiwin (Bear) is the protector of the ecosystem and represents courage. Sôginijiwin sculpture accentuates the many layers of experiences, feelings and textures each of us entail. When running your hands over the sculpture you will feel the rough growth rings and will be led to the smooth and fluid side of Sôginijiwin. The seasons of our lives are enriched by both the coarseness of our struggle and the vast growth of our joyful experiences. Using the metaphor of our struggle as winter and of our joy as summer, Sôginijiwin sculpture captures in shape and texture the growth and contrast of both experiences. The lighter grain of a tree is the spring and summer growth, and the dark grain is the fall and winter. Robinson has removed some of the spring and summer growth to give a tactile sensation of our transformations followed by the seasons. It takes courage to meet each season of your life and to honour the growth and history that each year brings.
